Ken Ellerbe, President

DS1530
Kenneth received his Open Water certification from Dr. Jose Jones in 2003. In 2005, he received his Advanced Open Water certification from Dr. Jones and in 2007, received his Rescue Diver certification from the club’s Safety Officer, Alex Colvin ll. In 2015 and 2016, Kenneth participated in the underwater archaeology efforts with “Diving with a Purpose” and was certified as an Archaeology Survey Diver by Paul L. Washington, Jr. Kenneth chose to include the names of his certifying instructors to illustrate his belief in diving being a sport where camaraderie, reliance on others, and supporting others is an essential component of safe, successful diving.
During a 32-year career in public safety, where he eventually led the Sarasota County, and Washington, DC Fire Departments, Kenneth acquired and honed leadership skills that he hopes will allow him to successfully follow the stellar presidents who have led the Underwater Adventure Seekers before him, most notably recent past president Lora Routt.
Kenneth has traveled with UAS from the potentially rough waves off the coast of North Carolina to the unpredictable currents in the Somosomo Strait running between Taveuni Island and Vanua Levi in Fiji. Kenneth continues to pursue training opportunities and increase his knowledge and understanding as a diver, acquiring five specialty diver certifications in Bonaire during the UAS 2018 summer trip through Kim Walker, another outstanding instructor and member of the UAS.
“I am humbled by the opportunity to work for the diving club that not only embraced me but has given me the opportunity to see the world in a way that I don’t believe I would have, without them. It my desire to invest my energy in this opportunity, as the club has invested in me.”
