PADI RESCUE CLASS Sep 18-19th, 2021

The Underwater Adventure Seekers will sponsor a PADI Rescue class on 18-19 Sept 2021 at Lake Phoenix, VA.  The class size will be a maximum of six students taught by Vanessa Haigler and Kim Walker.  To participate, individuals must have completed the following prerequisites:

 – Certified as an Advanced Open Water diver
 – Have completed an Emergency First Response (EFR) class or equivalent CPR/First Aid class within two years of the Rescue class date

Those who need an EFR class or renew, Kim Walker will be teaching a class.  An announcement will be forthcoming.  Vanessa Haigler will review Oxygen First Aid for students.

Attached are forms that need to be reviewed and filled out if you are interested.  Please send completed forms to Kim Walker.  The deadline is 6 Aug 2021 or sooner.  It is on a first come, first served basis.

The course will require students to purchase the PADI Rescue Diver Crew Pack with Pocket Mask and answer the Knowledge Review questions at the end of the chapter (five chapters total).  Amazon has this product for $83, or you can purchase it from a dive shop.  Also, the class requires students to view the Rescue Diver video which we can set up for viewing.

We ask that potential students start getting in shape if you have not been physically active and ensure your scuba diving equipment is operational.

This will be a fun and exciting class that will have many benefits and valuable lessons.  UAS did not have a class last year due to the pandemic and so far, there is significant interest in members wanting to sign up for the Rescue Diver course.  So, don’t procrastinate.

If there are any questions, please contact me.  Thank you.

WreckFest ’22 Update (Posted 24MAY2022)

Good Evening NABS Family,

I trust everyone is healthy and keeping themselves and family safe.  I wanted to give you the last official update for WreckFest ’22.  To date we have only (8) spots filled with (14) vacancies. This is very disappointing support for this event.  My hope was to fill up the Olympus boat and have spillover to the Midnight Express.  If we were able to fill more than 75% of the total boats (Olympus & Midnight Express), I was going to bid in ’23 to lock down both the Olympus and Midnight Express to make WreckFest a NABS Mini Summit.  That isn’t looking like it will happen now.  I know with Covid-19 it has had a tremendous impact on diving in general.  I had hoped with the total number of members we have, we would have been able to compensate.  I thought we would have at least (30) people in all of NABS to attend this event.  I was mistaken.  This may be the last year WreckFest will be a NABS event if we cannot get enough to even secure half the boat.  As I mentioned a few weeks ago, the deadline to pay your balance in full is Saturday May 21st.  Presently we have only (8) filled spots and most of those are from NDC.  If anyone is still interested I believe I can convince Olympus to extend us by 1 week if we were to obtain 50% of the balance and pay it by Saturday. That means those who still want to attend will need to pay a minimum of $250 by Saturday.  Olympus Dive Center is a business and has to conduct themselves accordingly, I certainly do understand.  The date we have selected to dive July 9th and 10th is probably the most popular and sought after weekend due to the weather and water conditions during the dive season. This is long before Hurricane season and as a result these dates usually are secured 1 year in advance.  I just wanted to make sure everyone is aware of this.  I know a lot is going on this year with prior dive destinations and commitments which is understandable.  However we are only talking about (14) spots for the entire NABS Family.

I have preached long enough.  I have attached the WreckFest registration form with all the information you need to book your spot and the WreckFest flyer.  NABS Officers & Club Presidents, thank you for promoting WreckFest to your club members and for your support over the years.  This is more than a dive organization this is a family and families take care of each other.

Thank You All Again!

Yours In Diving,
